Beyond Form: breath, bones and awareness

“Since I had no form, I could feel all possible forms in myself, and all actions and expressions and possibilities of making noises, even the rude ones!” (Italo Calvino, Cosmicomics) What is form and how does it emerge? What forms emerge from inside you and around you? How can you unearth, harness and shape them to create performance? This workshop consists of a curated journey through selected exercises from Phillip Zarrilli’s psychophysical training, Indian and Japanese theatre as well as Western approaches to movement composition and vocal resonance. Participants will be introduced to a selection of dynamic forms and improvisation exercises with the objective to move beyond form and begin to find their own modes of expression. It will:

1) Give the contemporary actor/performer a deeper understanding and appreciation for diverse training approaches.
2) Equip them with new inspiring tools to strengthen and modulate their performance.
3) Help them develop paths towards applying principles of these trainings to their own creative practice.

Age group: 18+
